Five people were killed in a car accident early this morning in Queens, and at least two of the deceased are children. According to police the Mercedes SUV carrying eight passengers was traveling eastbound on Atlantic Avenue when it struck a pillar under the Van Wyck Expressway, causing the SUV to flip and roll over, coming to a rest on its side. Witnesses told CBS that the car, driven by a female, was speeding and ran two red lights, and struck the pillar only to avoid a car. The driver and two others, one of whom is seven years old, remain in Jamaica hospital. Two are in critical condition, and the third is in serious condition.
Two of the killed were an 8-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy, and three others are girls of unknown ages. The two adults in the hospital are ages 45 and 26. The victims' identities have not been released pending family notification.
