Firefighter Pat Quagliariello has been arrested after an NYPD probe showed that he was speeding and talking on a cell phone during an October hit-and-run that killed Guatemalan immigrant Manuel Tzajguachiac. Initially, Quagliariello admitted to the 62nd Precinct that his vehicle had been involved in the crash, but wouldn't say if he had been at the wheel.
Quagliariello turned himself in this morning, and was hit with charges of leaving the scene of an accident involving a fatality, criminally negligent homicide, reckless driving, speeding and driving a vehicle while using a mobile phone. He was previously suspended without pay for the duration of the probe, and an FDNY spokesman said he is now "on administrative duty while this investigation plays out."
