This 4th of July weekend may have started early for some people, but for Gothamist, it's just a countdown to the Macy's 4th of July Fireworks. You can view the fireworks from a variety of places in the city - here's a list of places from the city and from Macy's - and listen to the simulcast on 1010 WINS (John Philip Sousa), or just watch it at home on WNBC 4. Gothamist always loves the fun facts about the fireworks spectacular: Over 35,000 shells, "which translates to over 1,000 shells per minute," and there are 55 times more fireworks in this show than any other in the country.

And there are tons of other fun activities this weekend, whether it's Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest or various concerts or different tours in parks; plus, guides from Newsday and New York magazine. But know this: The Mayor and Fire Commissioner want you to have a safe weekend.

Have a great Fourth of July weekend, everyone!
