Joining the ranks of official city mascots on Instagram (okay, maybe it's just one other official city mascot) is the FDNY's own fire safety dalmatian, Hot Dog. He's kind of a name-dropper—look who he did CPR training with:

Hot Dog is also on Twitter and he blogs—all for a good reason: To remind New Yorkers of important safety measures, like Halloween safety tips ("Check to make sure your costume and accessories are flame-resistant. That will help keep you safe from fire" and "Make sure you’re with a trusted adult when you’re trick-or-treating. Never go into someone’s home by yourself") or making sure you change your smoke detectors' batteries. (P.S., your apartment should have a working smoke detector.)
