An FDNY lieutenant was arrested last week for allegedly pilfering from a Catholic school fundraiser, police said.

Christopher Hughes, 43, was caught skimming cash during a charity event at Blessed Sacrament School on Staten Island on November 24th. It's not clear how much money was taken, according to officials. It appears the alleged theft happened at the culmination of the school's three day Holiday Fair fundraiser, according to the Blessed Sacrament calendar.

Hughes was arrested and charged at 5 a.m. on Friday, police said. "Someone saw him do it and reported it to police," an NYPD spokesperson told Gothamist.

A spokesperson for the FDNY confirmed that Hughes had been suspended for 28 days.

Inquiries to the Blessed Sacrament School were not returned.
