And finally tonight: a father and son in Brooklyn have been arrested on charges of animal cruelty in the brutal murder of their pet cat. The Brooklyn DA tells City Room that Jean Murat, 60, and his son, Robenson Murat, 29, were arrested last week after a witness saw them beating their black cat with a stick inside their home, located in the Flatlands.

After allegedly killing the cat, prosecutors say the elder Murat tried to dispose of the feline by dumping it on a street corner, but prosecutors say he later retrieved it and dumped the corpse out with the trash, where it was recovered by the ASPCA. According to the DA, investigators acting on a search warrant "found a broken stick in the house’s attic along with cat fibers and blood." Both men face up to two years if convicted.
