The driver of a tractor trailer truck was killed in an early-morning crash on the George Washington Bridge. The collision occurred shortly before 2:30 a.m. on the Manhattan-bound upper level of the bridge. According to the FDNY, on unidentified driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while another driver was taken to an area hospital for evaluation. Traffic is still backed up for miles as investigators work the scene and prepare to clear the trucks, which have become snarled together.
Delays of at least 2-3 hours are being reported, with just one eastbound lane open on the upper level at this time. "Avoid the bridge at all costs," a Port Authority spokesman told NBC New York. One shrewd motorist told CBS 2, "When I saw the massive line, that’s when I didn’t go that way."
