A crash on the Van Wyck Expressway, near Flushing Meadows Corona Park, has left one person dead as well as backed up traffic, with the authorities closing the southbound lanes.
The incident occurred before 5 a.m.; WABC 7 reports, "One person was killed when a car slammed into the rear of a tractor-trailer." It's believed the car's driver died.

Some traffic is being let through one lane, but motorists are urged to find alternate routes:
