The death of fashion designer Sylvie Cachay has officially been classified as a homicide by the medical examiner's office. Cachay's body was found in a bathtub in a hotel room at the Soho House earlier this month. The ME's office says that the 33-year-old was held underwater and strangled.
Cachay's boyfriend Nick Brooks has already been charged with attempted murder, and now a homicide charge is likely. According to the Daily News, Cachay's body had "bruises on her neck, bleeding in her eyes and abrasions inside her mouth from chewing her lips - injuries consistent with asphyxiation."
Brook was seen leaving the Meatpacking District hotel around the time of Cachay's death; upon his return, he was taken in for questioning. The couple was staying at the hotel because Cachay's hair caught fire from candles Brooks put around her apartment bedroom (neighbors said they heard the couple arguing). Brooks' next court appearance is January 4.
