Police arrested a man for a fatal stabbing that occurred in upper Manhattan. It occurred near the Fairway supermarket, where both the victim and suspect work.
According to the NYPD, they responded to a report of a stabbing near 2350 12th Avenue at 1:45 p.m. Officers found a 22-year-old man, Pedro Miguel Payero Valerio, stabbed in the torso. He was taken to St. Luke's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Jovanny Paulino, a 25-year-old Bronx resident, was arrested and charged wtih murder and felony assault. Apparently the pair had gotten into an argument in a Fairway warehouse that spilled out into a parking lot. A witness told the Daily News, "One of the guys said, ‘What is it that you want? What is it that you f-----g want?’ He pulled out a knife and he just stabbed him."
Fairway issued a statement, "Our deepest condolences go to the family of the deceased at this time. He was a valued member of the Fairway community and we join together to mourn his loss... This incident, while tragic, is an isolated incident and did not occur on Fairway Market premises. Our store at 125th St. is unaffected and remains open to serve our customers. The safety and well being of Fairway customers and employees is always our foremost concern."
