    • What timing: Georgia U.S. Senator David Perdue is now self-isolating after getting COVID-19 just as the state's crucial runoff election is slated for week.
    • The city's first reported homicide of 2021—happening at a hotel that resulted in two other people shot—occurred just over an hour within the New Year.
    • New York City's first baby of 2021 was born at NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island Hospital.
    • A multi-vehicle crash on the Major Deegan Expressway Friday morning resulted in one vehicle bursting in flames and traffic coming to a complete standstill.
    • The NY Times spoke to several New Yorkers who fled the city during the height of the pandemic, only to come back. One New Yorker put it, “It was missing the sunlight of the apartment, missing the aesthetic and objects that we created in the home."
    • As the vaccine gets distributed across the country, albeit at a slower-than-expected pace, a Wisconsin hospital worker was fired for allegedly removing several dozen vials of the COVID-19 vaccine.
    • A man in the United Kingdom legally changed his name to Celine Dion after drinking too much alcohol on Christmas.
    • And this pooch is getting 2021 started the right way:
