Everyone loved how funny and forthcoming NJ Governor Chris Christie was during Late Show with David Letterman about his weight, even eating a doughnut and reading Letterman's fat jokes. But Connie Mariano, former White House physician to Presidents George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, is not laughing. And she's a Republican!
While Christie bragged about his cholesterol and blood sugar, but Mariano told CNN that he might have diabetes, sleep apnea and heart disease, "I'm worried he may have a heart attack. I'm worried he may have a stroke... It's almost a like a time bomb waiting to happen unless he addresses those issues before running for office."
She also told the Star-Ledger, "If he can get the obese vote, he’s got it. He can feel compassion, but he can also be a great example for people to conquer this. There are ways to do it. … And if he can overcome this disease, he deserves the White House... He’s a tough SOB. And all of us really like him because he’s refreshingly honest. He’s no BS-er. … I want him to lose weight so he can win the office."
Christie also Tweeted a video of him talking about his weight, "Sometimes I'm Successful, Sometimes I'm Not." (As Daily Intel points out, "Go ahead and get really comfortable with this narrative, because weight fluctuates often and 2016 is a very long time from now.")
But today Christie responded formally to Mariano's remarks with "SHUT UP":
