Congratulations to everyone who takes the A or G train: your weekend commute should be no more or less infuriating than it is any other day of the week. As for those straphangers who have to rely on literally any other line, scroll down below to decipher the subway changes awaiting you.
From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19th to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22nd, downtown 1 & 2 trains skip Christopher St, Houston St, Canal St, and Franklin St due to electrical improvements. At all times until winter 2018-19, downtown 1 trains skip 238 St as well.
From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20th to 10 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21st, free shuttle buses replace 2 trains between 241 St and Nereid Av due to track maintenance. 2 trains will run between Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College and Nereid Av. Free shuttle buses will run between 241 St and Nereid Av, making all station stops.
From 4 a.m. to 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20th, 2 & 3 trains will bypass Eastern Parkway-Brooklyn Museum in both directions due to the Brooklyn Marathon & Half Marathon.
From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19th to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22nd, 3 trains will run to/from New Lots Av all weekend; 3 trains will skip 145 St in both directions at all times until November 2018.
From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19th to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22th, 4 trains will not run between New Lots Av and Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall due to track maintenance in the Joralemon tube. Also, from 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19th to 10 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21st, downtown 4 trains skip Mt Eden, 170 St, 167 St, and 161 St due to track replacement between 167 St and 161 St.
And from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20th, and from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21st, 4 trains run every 16 minutes between 125 St and Woodlawn due to track replacement between 167 St and 161 St. Some 4 trains will end at 125th St, but others will not. The fates shall decide.
As if that all isn't enough, 4 trains will also not stop at Fulton St, Wall St and Bowling Green this weekend. (And as a reminder: at all times until December 2018, 4 & 6 trains will skip 28 St in both directions.)
Beginning 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19th, 5 service ends early between E 180 St and Bowling Green due to track maintenance in the Joralemon tube. From 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20th, and from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21st, 4, 6 & R trains provide 5 service between Bowling Green and Grand Central-42 St (5 trains will run between E 180 St and Grand Central-42 St).
As for the 7 train, god rest its soul: 7 trains will not run in Manhattan or Long Island City all weekend. From 12:15 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20th, to 4:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22nd, Queensboro Plaza-bound 7 trains run express from 74 St-Broadway to Queensboro Plaza, and free shuttle buses replace 7 trains between 34 St-Hudson Yards and Queensboro Plaza.
To help make up for the lack of 7 trains, additional train service is being scheduled on the S and W lines. The S will operate overnight from 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m. Saturday to Monday, Oct. 20th to Oct. 22nd; and the W, which normally doesn't run on the weekend, will run between Whitehall St and Ditmars Blvd from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20th and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21st.
Starting 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19th, B service will end early due to station enhancements at 145 St.
At all times until October 2018, B & C trains will skip 86 St in both directions. At all times until January 2019, B & D trains will skip 167 St in both directions. At all times until December 2018, B & D trains will also skip 174-175 Sts in both directions
At all times until December 2018, F trains will skip 57 St in both directions. From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19th, to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22nd, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound F trains are rerouted via the E line after 36 St to 47-50 St due to work. And at all times until December 2018, F & M trains will skip 23 St in both directions.
From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20th, to 10 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21st, free shuttle buses and E trains replace J trains between Crescent St and Jamaica Center due to station rehabilitation at 104 St and 121 St. J service will operate between Broad St and Crescent St. Free shuttle buses will make all station stops between Crescent St and 121 St.
At all times until Fall 2018, Jamaica Center Parsons/Archer-bound J trains skip 104 St and 121 St.
Beginning approximately 10:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19th, to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22nd, L service is suspended in both directions between 8 Av and Broadway Junction due to extensive track maintenance at 3 Av and Graham Av, and signal improvements and station work at Bedford Av. (L trains will run between Rockaway Pkwy and Broadway Junction, while M14 and free shuttle buses will provide alternate service between 8 Av and Broadway Junction.)
From 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19th to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22nd, M trains will provide alternative service due to track maintenance on the L & Q lines, and will run between Metropolitan Av and 47-50 Sts, and via the Q line between Lexington Av/63 St and 96 St, all weekend.
At all times this fall, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound N trains will skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, New Utrecht Av, 18 Av, 20 Av, Kings Hwy, Avenue U and 86 St.
At all times until July 2019, N trains will run local in both directions between 59 St and 36 St in Brooklyn. Also, at all times until February 2019, N & W trains will skip Broadway and 39 Av in both directions.
From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19th, to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22nd, Astoria-bound N & W trains skip 36 Av and 30 Av due to station enhancements at 39 Av and Broadway. (Trains also skip Broadway and 39 Av in both directions until February 2019 due to station renovations.)
From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19th, to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22nd, free shuttle buses and DMNR trains replace Q trains between Prospect Park and 96 St due to track maintenance near the 7 Av station. Q trains will run between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and Prospect Park. M trains will run between to/from the 96 St Q station all weekend. In Brooklyn, free shuttle buses will make all Q line station stops between Prospect Park and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr—except that due to road closures in effect for the Brooklyn Marathon & Half Marathon, Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr bound free shuttle buses will not stop at the 7 Av station from 9:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19th until 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21st.
From 10:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19th to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22nd, free shuttle buses and N trains replace R trains between Bay Ridge-95 St and 36 St due to station improvements. R trains will run days/evenings between 71 Av and 36 St in Brooklyn, and is then rerouted via the D line to/from the 9 Av station, which will be the last stop. Free shuttle buses will make all R line station stops between Bay Ridge-95 St and 59 St all weekend. Late night R service between Brooklyn and Whitehall St in Lower Manhattan is suspended this weekend.
