Last night, an elevator mechanic performing maintenance on a lift at 1290 Avenue of the Americas was electrocuted in a ninth floor engine room. A source told the Daily News, "He was lying on live wires."
The victim, Ed Bradley, 44, was found at 9:30 p.m. and had suffered cardiac arrest "when his arm came in contact with a wire in the vault transformer, causing the fatal shock, a Department of Buildings spokeswoman" told DNAinfo. Deputy Fire Chief Jim Hodgens told CBS-880, "He was found close to the main box - not directly on the wires but very close."
Bradley worked for Schindler, an elevator company, and reportedly worked at the building, which houses AXA, the insurance behemoth, frequently. The building has previously had a violation for exposed wiring in an electrical closet.
