A man was found dead on the Coney Island boardwalk this morning, possibly after freezing to death in the arctic-level chill.

According to police, the 77-year-old man was found on the boardwalk at Stillwell Avenue around 7:15 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and authorities have speculated that the frigid weather was largely responsible for his demise.

"He was found face up by a passerby who called 911," a police source told the Daily News. "It's possibly hypothermia, but the (medical examiner) will let us know."

The chill is wreaking utter havoc on everyone and everything forced to reckon with it for more than a few frenzied leaps between home, the office and the bar. It's too cold for the subway, it's too cold for the Holiday Inn. It's too cold for the frozen rat dropped haplessly in the center of the sidewalk whose rigid body I accidentally tripped over while making my own desperate sprint for the F train.

Tomorrow it will snow. Happy Monday.
