Dirt-bike-riding gunmen opened fire on an elderly Staten Island couple yesterday evening, wounding both of them, the NYPD says. Luckily the husband and wife are both expected to survive.

The 70-year-old man and his 63-year-old wife were strolling past 224 Jersey Street near Crescent Avenue in residential New Brighton just after 5:30 p.m., when two men rode by on dirt bikes and opened fire, the News reports. The NYPD, however, has not determined how many gunmen were involved. The elderly man was struck once in the abdomen, the woman once in her arm. Both victims were taken to Richmond University Medical Center in stable condition.

In the aftermath of the incident, nine shell casings were found in nearby Mahoney Playground, Staten Island Live reports. As of this morning, no arrests have been made. The NYPD says that the elderly couple were not the intended targets of this shooting.

Earlier yesterday afternoon in East New York, a dirt bike rider crashed into a vehicle and fled the scene on foot, leaving his teenage passenger on the ground with severe head injuries.
