Eight people were injured after an escalator collapsed at Stuyvesant High School on Thursday afternoon, authorities said.
The incident happened around 3:45 p.m. inside the specialized high school. Witnesses say there was a major emergency response in the Battery Park City area around 4:00 p.m.

All eight individuals are currently being treated on the scene. A spokesperson for the FDNY did not have any information about the extent of the injuries.
According to the app Citizen, bystanders say that EMS is "treating students with minor lacerations," along with one person who may have had a severe foot injury.
