And so the DSK saga ends. Today disgraced Frenchman Dominique Strauss-Kahn came to a settlement agreement with Nafissatou Diallo, the hotel maid who accused him of sexual assault last year. The terms of the settlement were not made public. "I thank everyone all over the world and everyone at the court," Diallo told reporters after the settlement was announced. "God bless you all."
Last May, Diallo told detectives that DSK had sexually assaulted her in his hotel room, setting off a house arrest media circus, some vile tabloid journalism, the public outing of DSK's accuser, the derailment of his political career, more charges etc., etc. Also, of course, a Law & Order:SVU episode.
After questions about Diallo's charges began to add up, the Manhattan DA dropped the criminal case against DSK in August 2011. But the civil suit remained, until today. Since last summer DSK has admitted to consensual sex with Diallo, "though in a French television interview after the criminal case was dismissed, he acknowledged that the encounter was 'an error' and 'a moral failure' that he would forever regret." He was not at court today.
