31-year-old Christal Aliotta was walking along the sidewalk along a residential street in Staten Island around 1:45 p.m. today when she was killed by a motorist who drove up over the curb. According to the NYPD, the driver of a 2005 Honda Accord plowed into Aliotta and another unidentified woman, age 20, at the intersection of Cleveland Avenue and Hylan Boulevard in Great Kills. The younger woman is listed in stable condition at Staten Island University North hospital; Aliotta was pronounced DOA.

The driver, who the NYPD identify only as a 23-year-old male, was taken into custody at the scene. Charges are pending, and a police source tells the Staten Island Advance his license was suspended. The Advance also has heavy photos of the collision's aftermath, and notes "Several personal items, including a bag and shoes, were strewn about the sidewalk nearby."

The NYPD says the investigation is ongoing.
