An early Tuesday morning car crash in Washington Heights left the driver in critical condition and her passenger dead, the NYPD said.
Shortly after 1 a.m. on Tuesday morning, police responded to a crash in the vicinity of Saint Nicholas Avenue and West 190th Street. The driver, a 25-year-old woman, was reportedly heading north when she rear-ended an MTA flatbed truck. The 28-year-old male passenger in the vehicle as CBS News reports.
The driver was taken to Harlem Hospital, and is in critical condition. The 28-year-old male passenger was pronounced dead at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. He's been identified as Eduardo Liranzo, a Bronx resident. The truck's driver, a 43-year-old man, was also taken to Columbia and is in stable condition, police said.
An NYPD spokesperson could not confirm further details about the circumstances of the crash, but ABC News reports that the driver had been involved in a less serious collision shortly before the fatal crash, and was allegedly fleeing that scene when she hit the truck.
