A driver got so angry about traffic into the Holland Tunnel on the Manhattan side yesterday afternoon that he allegedly jumped out of his car wielding a samurai sword. According to Port Authority police, 32-year-old Richardson Rosius of Eatontown, New Jersey, allegedly shouted and pointed the blade at a driver in a nearby car, then stepped back into his Honda and drove through the tunnel. Port Authority cops waiting on the other end stopped him, and spotted the sword sitting on his passenger seat, they said.
Police said Rosius admitted to threatening the other motorist with the weapon, a 10-1/2-inch Wakazashi sword.
According to The Connoisseur's Book of Japanese Swords, Wakizashis bottom out at 30 cm, or 11 13/16 inches, making this piece more like a Tanto sword.
In any event, Rosius is being charged with possession of a weapon with intent to use, punishable by 3-5 years in prison. It was not immediately clear if Rosius has an attorney.
