At around 7 p.m. on Friday, NYPD officers managed to stop a suicide attempt atop a Midtown parking garage.

Cops were trying to talk a man down from the East 30th St and Fifth Ave garage's fifth floor ledge for about a quarter of an hour when he suddenly pushed himself off the ledge. Luckily, the officers were able to pull him back over the ledge to safety, despite the fact that the man was drenched and slippery from earlier intense rain, and and a photographer managed to capture the dramatic rescue from the street below.

The suicide rescue was the second of its kind yesterday; earlier that morning, a Coney Island resident saved a 65-year-old man who had jumped into the water and was floating face down by the pier. The 65-year-old man is currently in critical condition.
