It's official: Citi Bike will debut on Memorial Day, making the commute to that awkward barbeque your boss is throwing on the tiny ledge of his Tribeca apartment that much easier.

For the first week, bike share will only be available for members. On June 2, daily and weekly memberships will be available for $9.95 and $25 respectively. “More than eight thousand annual members have already signed up to get a head start on the newest way to get around," DOT Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan said in a release.

The start date was first reported by Matt Chaban at Crain's, who noticed that Select Bus Services routes had begun on holidays, and that Times Square's pedestrian plazas debuted on Memorial Day in 2009.
