Tears continue to fall with the rain here at Gothamist HQ, after Huckabee announced this weekend that he would not run for the President of Losing to Obama, our favorite f-bomb dropping snake oil gas bag Donald Trump announced today that he too is calling it quits. In a statement at NBC's upfronts today, Trump modestly said that "I maintain the strong conviction that if I were to run, I would be able to win the primary and ultimately, the general election." True, Trump wasn't polling too hot recently, but on the other hand, he has never been wrong about anything. Ever.

Luckily Trump said, as if there was any doubt to the contrary, that he would "continue to voice my opinions loudly and help to shape our politician’s thoughts," whether or not those thoughts involve "controlling" Iraqi oil or improving relationships with "the blacks." In the end, it came down to acknowledging his true calling in life: "business is my greatest passion and I am not ready to leave the private sector." It's way easier to bilk ordinary Americans out of millions of dollars when you don't have those pesky "Constitutional obligations" in the way.

The real loser in his decision, besides Freedom, is Megan McCain, who was a shoe-in to become Donald's campaign advisor. That would be a much sweeter gig than getting naked on top of roofs.
