TV legend Don Knotts, aka Deputy Barney Fife on "The Andy Griffith Show" passed on Friday of "pulmonary and respiratory complications." He was 81.

Though he appeared on numerous other TV shows, including "Three's Company" where he played second landlord Mr. Furley, Knotts was most proud of his role on the Griffith show which he won five Emmy Awards for.

Other than his TV work, Knotts appeared in many films including "Pleasantville," "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World," "The Incredible Mr. Limpet," and "Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo."

"In recent years, he said he had no plans to retire, traveling with theater production and appearing in print and television ads."
