A man was killed while riding a Yamaha dirt bike in The Bronx yesterday afternoon after he hit a car that was making a left-hand turn, according to police. Officers say the bike also struck two pedestrians, and that it was both unregistered and uninsured.

The 25-year-old biker, who has not yet been identified, was reportedly riding the bike on East 188th Street and 3rd Avenue in The Bronx at around 3 p.m. yesterday afternoon. Cops say he was traveling southbound on 3rd Avenue, and tried to pass a Toyota sedan ahead of him. The Toyota then tried to make a lefthand turn and collided with the bike, throwing the biker off. Officers say the unmanned bike then struck two pedestrians, an 85-year-old woman and a 55-year-old man, on 3rd Avenue.

The biker suffered severe body trauma and was pronounced dead at St. Barnabas Hospital. The pedestrians were also taken to St. Barnabas and listed in stable condition. Officers say the driver of the Toyota stayed on the scene and did not request medical attention; the investigation is ongoing.

It is illegal to ride a dirt bike in New York City.
