Police are investigating the grisly discovery of a limbless and headless body inside an apartment in the Lower East Side.

Officers were called to 265 East Houston Street at the corner of Suffolk Street at around 3:30 p.m., responding to what police say was a welfare check requested by a relative of the victim. When they got there they found an unnamed man's mutilated corpse.

Police tell Gothamist that the victim's head and limbs were dismembered and that an electric saw was found at the scene. Investigators are currently reviewing security camera video and canvassing the scene.

Sources tell the New York Post that "the victim’s legs and arms were completely removed, and body parts were found in plastic bags found in the apartment."

A crime scene has been set up, with yellow tape surrounding the exterior of the building, a ten story condo with seven units, according to Streeteasy. City records show it was built in 2011.
