As we enjoy these last gasps of summer, remember to exercise caution when leaping into an ocean still reeling from the effects of Hurricane Cristobal. The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for beaches in Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island, and lifeguards are asking visitors to please abstain from swimming if a yellow or red flag is out.

“Listen to whatever the lifeguards have posted, if they say no swimming, don’t try to go in,” Lt. Lifeguard Matt Siciliano told CBS New York. “I’ve been doing it a long time so when we say it’s not safe, it’s not safe.”

If it's not the surf, it will be the sharks, so it's probably best to just hide in your bathtub, where conditions are more predictable.
