A bicyclist is in critical condition after being struck by an SUV near the ramp leading up to the Manhattan Bridge bike lane. According to an NYPD spokesperson, the male cyclist was traveling the wrong way in the eastbound land of Sands Street at around 9:35 p.m. last night when he was struck by a 2010 Volkswagen Tiguan traveling east. The victim was transported to Bellevue Hospital with severe head trauma, and remains in critical condition.
The driver, a 25-year-old woman, remained on the scene. The police spokesperson said that the driver appeared to be pulling onto the ramp for the BQE when she struck the cyclist. The investigation is ongoing, and no charges or summonses have been issued.
