An unidentified 30-year-old man was killed by a flatbed truck last night while riding his bike in East Williamsburg. According to a spokesman for the FDNY, the accident happened just after midnight, and the first ambulance arrived within three minutes. But the victim was pronounced dead at the accident scene, which is just a couple of blocks from 3rd Ward.

The NYPD tells us that the truck was traveling south on Morgan Avenue, and investigators believe the cyclist was biking next to the truck when it made a right turn onto Meserole Street. (In cyclist parlance, this is known as a "right hook.") It's unclear if the driver of the truck knew he hit the cyclist, because the person behind the wheel is still at large. The truck was found legally parked but unattended a block away.

Investigators are searching for the driver to question him or her about the accident, and we'll update as more information becomes available.
