A cyclist struck a police officer on the Brooklyn Bridge yesterday, resulting in an injured arm for the member of service and an irresistible metaphor for this broken city.

An NYPD spokesman said the incident happened at around 5 p.m. near the Manhattan side of the bridge. The officer, who was on foot patrol, was taken to New York Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital and treated for minor injuries (if it's high drama you seek, the NY Post and the Daily News have photographs of the officer being transported in a gurney, a look of pure anguish splitting his face).

The NYPD spokesman told us the cyclist had not been issued a citation. But the editorial boards for the NY Post and the Daily News are urging the NYPD to "release Barabbas" and deliver unto them the Spandexed One.
