[Update below] A cyclist was struck and killed by a bus driver in Midtown this afternoon, just blocks from where Daniel Hanegby was struck and killed by the driver of a charter bus earlier this week.
According to a police spokesperson, the NYPD responded to a call about an injured cyclist at West 29th Street and 7th Avenue at just before 4 p.m. this afternoon. When they arrived on the scene, cops found the cyclist, a man in his 40s, in the road with severe trauma to his body. EMS took the man to Bellevue Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The NYPD says a preliminary investigation shows the cyclist was going south on 7th Avenue when he collided with the bus moving west on West 29th Street. The bus driver remained on the scene, and an investigation is ongoing.
Update 5:38 p.m.: According to the NYPD, a further investigation of the crash revealed that both the bus was a charter bus, and that the driver and the cyclist were both going south on 7th Avenue when the driver of the bus tried to make a right turn onto West 29th Street and struck the cyclist.
