A cyclist who was run over by a tractor trailer driver on the Upper West Side last week died from his injuries on Wednesday, according to the NYPD.

Police say the cyclist, identified as 24-year-old Abu Sufian Molliek Rifat, was struck by the driver of a tractor trailer near Amsterdam Avenue and West 72nd Street at around 10:15 p.m. last Tuesday. A police spokesperson told Gothamist the truck driver told a responding officer that he heard a collision in the back of the truck on the passenger side, and that when he stopped the truck and got out, he saw Molliek Rifat in the street.

EMS responding to the location took Molliek Rifat to Saint Luke's Medical Center, where he eventually died of what an NYPD spokesperson said were severe bodily injuries. An initial investigation by the NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad claims that Molliek Rifat and the truck driver were both moving north on Amsterdam Avenue when the cyclist somehow hit the side of the truck and fell. A witness to the accident told the West Side Rag that Molliek Rifat was dragged by the truck driver after getting hit.

No charges have been filed against the driver, but the NYPD says the investigation is ongoing.
