A man and a woman were found dead in a bed at the Hilton Garden Inn on Staten Island yesterday, and investigators believe the couple died of drug overdoses.

According to the NYPD, Bronx resident Theresa Mateo, 34, and Staten Island resident Scott Jacobi, 37, were discovered unconscious and unresponsive by hotel workers at around 12:53 p.m. on Friday. Cops say they were found in bed, fully-clothed and clutching each other, and paramedics pronounced them dead at the scene.

Mateo and Jacobi reportedly checked into the hotel at around 6 p.m. on Wednesday; video footage from the hotel confirms they were still alive at 10 p.m. on Thursday night. They were expected to check out on Friday morning.

The Medical Examiner's office is currently investigating Mateo and Jacobi's cause of death, though the Staten Island Advance says a source was "advised by the New York City Police Department that it was an overdose" that killed the couple. There were no signs of trauma or forced entry at the scene, and authorities say they did not find any drug paraphernalia.
