Last year the City paid out $186.3 million in judgments related to lawsuits filed against the NYPD. Councilmember Peter Vallone thinks that number could reach $1 billion if legislation currently working through city council makes it easier to sue the police. “This is the most dangerous and irresponsible bill ever to be considered by the City Council,” Vallone told the Post. “It would bankrupt the city.” Indeed, moral bankruptcy is much more cost-efficient.

Vallone's Pubic Safety Committee is set to discuss the bill in a hearing next month, while the bill's sponsor, councilmember Jumaane Williams, was nearly given yet another chance to sue the city and the NYPD last week.
