Over the weekend, it was reported that subway workers faked thousands of signal inspections after being put under pressure to submit numbers or lose overtime pay. The MTA says an investigation is underway, but Councilman James Vacca is calling for hearings, saying, "Straphangers have a right to know the full extent of any malfeasance or falsification of records." The MTA also says inspections have been completed on all the signals in question, and that everything is working fine, but Vacca wants to know just how long all the fibbing has been going on.
