Long Island police say that a 43-year-old woman was arrested for driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child because she was allegedly drunk with three children, ages 8 and under, in the car. And not only did she crash into a car in Patchogue, she got out of the car, grabbed the children and tried to escape on foot.

Suffolk County police say that Zona Taylor "collided with a 2003 Ford on westbound North Prospect Avenue in Patchogue at 10:58 p.m." on Saturday night. She then allegedly got out, taking her 8-year-old child and two grandchildren (who are 4 and 6) and ran from the scene.

Police found Taylor in Blue Point, not far from the scene. A neighbor told 1010 WINS, "When the cops flew around the corner, she ran up on [a neighbor's] front lawn with the kids, she was scurrying them along. And then the cops came out, the officer was just yelling at her, ‘why were you running from me, why were you running from me?’" Another said, "The children were young, they were in the back seat. I know one was in a car seat. She was trying to get them out as fast as possible and then she started to basically run across the front lawn."

Further, not only was the person in the Ford injured, Taylor's own adult passenger was injured. If convicted, Taylor could face felony punishment, because it's against the law to drive drunk with children under 15 in the car.
