The police have released an image of a subway rider accused of groping a woman on a crowded train last month.

According to the NYPD, the incident took place on a "crowded 4 train" during the evening rush hour, at 5:50 p.m. on July 9th: "The suspect placed his hand on the 28 year-old female victim's buttocks and victim realized it as the train began to empty out at the 161 Street station. The victim was able to take a photo of him before he exited the train at the 170 Street station."

Police describe the suspect as being about 5'6", 150 pounds with black hair and a clear complexion.

If you are groped or see someone masturbating on the train, report it! You can report it to an MTA worker or police officer at the station or file a complaint through the MTA's website. Anecdotally, we know a few people who were contacted immediately by detectives after filing a complaint through the MTA website. The NYPD appears to be taking this seriously.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS. The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers Website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or texting their tips to 274637(CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
