Police have released a sketch of the man suspected of beating and then sexually assaulting a woman in Greenwich Village last week.
Cops say the man, described as a black or Hispanic male, 20 to 25 years old, approximately 6', medium build, entered the Body Work massage business at 85 Washington Place, posing as a customer, and then beat a worker to unconsciousness before assaulting her on Friday, August 17. The victim was taken to the hospital.
City Council Speaker Christine Quinn was handing out flyers to constituents (her district includes the Village) on Wednesday. According to the Post, Quinn was outside the West 4th Street subway station, telling passers-by, "This attack is just a horrible attack. If you saw anything or if the image looks familiar, please help the police apprehend this man."
Last week, a woman was raped at her home near West 4th and 6th Avenue—she was allegedly intoxicated and a stranger offered to help her home; he then raped her. That suspect is described as a middle-aged Asian male around 5'9". The Village Alliance's William Kelley told the Post, "I am surprised; we generally feel safe in our streets in the Village. People need to stay aware. We just have to stay vigilant."
