One thief's Crosby connection has dried up. Police this weekend busted Brandon Kiehm, 30, for allegedly sneaking into upscale gyms and pilfering people's possessions from their lockers. His main two targets between October and December, it appears, were the Equinox (which he hit up five times) and 24 Hour Fitness (which he hit up twice) located on Crosby Street between Prince and Houston. Kiehm is said to have taken everything from wallets to credit cards to laptops to a pair of pants. This is the latest in a long string of locker room-robberies that has annoyed New Yorkers over the years. So how did the cops get their man this time?
Kiehm was caught after he was seen on a Best Buy security camera using a credit card that had been stolen from one of the locker rooms. With that evidence cops were able to spot him on surveillance cameras at the gyms themselves. After he was arrested and charged with six counts of burglary and six counts of grand larceny this weekend, Kiehm was released on $5,000 bail.
So what did we learn today, kids? Use good locks when locking your stuff up. And if you want to be on the safe side? Don't lock up your really valuables—leave them at home. Also, thieves really seem to like the SoHo Equinox.
