Police announced Saturday that they arrested the suspect accused of pressing his groin into a subway train rider's arm. NYPD Chief of Transit Bureau Joseph Fox said, "This pervert picked the wrong victim- Fled leaving behind his backpack, phone, his DNA, & his dignity. Transit SVU Dets got him within hrs!"
The incident took place on Friday morning, around 10:20 a.m., when a woman on a northbound 7 train in Queens felt a man "[press] his groin against the victim's arm," according to the NYPD.
The Daily News reports that the victim was an off-duty officer, with a source saying, "He poked her with his genitals."
The victim and suspect, who was shirtless, got into what the police called a "physical altercation." When the train got to the 40th Street and Lowery Street subway station, the suspect fled north on 40 Street.
Fnu Kamruzzaman, 27, was charged with forcible touching and sexual abuse. The News adds Kamruzzaman had two prior arrests, including a 2014 incident where he "was cuffed for rubbing himself on a 15-year-old girl on a train as it passed through the Upper West Side."
If you see or experience sexual misconduct in the subway (this includes seeing a masturbator, being groped, being grinded on, etc.), you can report it to the MTA and police on this website. There's also a place for you to upload photos and/or video. Don't let the perverts win.
