A traffic stop for a broken taillight led to a sizable drug bust in East Williamsburg yesterday. According to an NYPD release, at around 3 a.m. Saturday cops noticed a 2005 Toyota Camry traveling north on Bushwick Avenue near Meserole Street with a busted taillight and a defective plate light. After they pulled the car over to issue a ticket, the officers said they smelled marijuana and recognized the driver, 25-year-old Brian Espinal, as having a warrant for another traffic infraction.
Police searched Espinal and allegedly found 26 bags of cocaine and two bags of marijuana in his sweatshirt, as well as 10 kilos of cocaine and $8,000 cash in the trunk of the car.
Espinal was charged with three felony counts of drug possession, two misdemeanor counts of drug possession, operating a vehicle without signal lights, and driving with an inadequate plate lamp.
