A brave Emergency Services Unit officer is lucky to be alive after an attempt to subdue an emotionally disturbed person left him knocked out cold on the subway tracks at Times Square. Detective James Griffin was struggling to remove an emotionally disturbed man from the tracks of the southbound N train at Times Square during the early morning rush. According to the NYPD, "the man fought with the officer, causing him to fall and strike his head on one of the rails, leaving him unconscious."

Griffin's fellow ESU detectives subdued and arrested the suspect, identified as a homeless man named Richard Wilcox. Griffin was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he regained consciousness and is listed in stable condition. Wilcox is charged with Obstructing Governmental Administration, Resisting arrest and Criminal Trespass.
