A construction worker was found dead inside the elevator shaft of a Hell's Kitchen high-rise on Sunday morning, police said.

Authorities received a call at around 7 a.m. for a man believed to be in cardiac arrest inside 555 Tenth Avenue between 40th and 41st Streets. Police say they discovered the body of a 53-year-old man on the fifth floor of the building, between an elevator and elevator shaft. He was pronounced dead on the scene by EMS.

A spokesperson with the FDNY said it's believed that the construction worker fell down the elevator shaft. The NYPD said it's not yet known how long the body had been there, and could not confirm the cause of death.

The mixed-use tower with luxury rentals, dubbed 555Ten, is 52 stories and rises to 650 feet, according to Curbed. The building is currently unoccupied and still undergoing construction.

An investigation by the NYPD is ongoing.
