A construction worker was reportedly killed by falling beams at Brooklyn's Barclays Center today. An FDNY spokesman confirms that first responders were called to the arena shortly after 1:30 p.m. after receiving a call about a cardiac arrest. The worker was transported to Brooklyn Hospital in critical condition.

Police sources tell News 12 that "the beams fell on a 52-year-old man as they were being unloaded." NBC New York reports that the worker was helping install the green roof on the arena when the beams crushed him.

The construction company, Greenland Forest City Partners, issued a statement saying, "We are all devastated by what happened. All of us at Greenland Forest City Ratner Partners and Barclays Center extend our most heartfelt condolences to the worker's family and friends."

An NYPD spokesman had no information to provide about the incident. We'll update as more information becomes available.
