A 30-year-old man died early this afternoon after he fell down an elevator shaft at a construction site in Hell's Kitchen, according to police.

Cops say they were called to 577 9th Avenue near 41st Street at around 12:40 p.m. today, where they found the unidentified victim lying at the bottom of an elevator shaft. He was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

DNAinfo reports that the man was working on the fourth floor of a burgeoning development at the address, and that he was not wearing a harness when he fell. The project is helmed by BRF Construction Corp., which did not respond to media requests for comment.

In 2014, Curbed reported that SLCE Architects was designing a 25-story hotel at that address.

The NYPD says the investigation is ongoing.
