The man whose body was found in Sheepshead Bay on Monday, feet encased in concrete, died of suffocation after his killer(s) wrapped his face in duct tape, the Medical Examiner's Office has reported.

The body, identified as that of Peter Martinez Jr., floated to the water's surface and was spotted by a student out walking on the campus of Kingsborough Community College in Manhattan Beach. Martinez's arms were taped behind his back, his torso wrapped in plastic bags, and his feet in a five-gallon bucket of concrete that evidently didn't sufficiently weigh down his corpse.

Martinez was a reputed gang member and had recently served a state prison term for an identity theft case out of Suffolk County. He reportedly went by the name Petey Crack in the streets. He was reported missing in February.

A spokeswoman for the Medical Examiner's Office said the agency will not release how long Martinez had been dead or in the water when his body was found.

Police have made no arrests in connection with what they and the chief medical examiner have deemed a homicide.
