A cold front passed through the city early this morning, putting an end to the rain and humidity. About an inch of rain was measured across the city yesterday, and much of that rain fell within about a 45 minute period in the afternoon, causing flash floods and numerous traffic delays. The winner in yesterday's rainfall derby was Cold Spring in the Hudson Valley where over three inches was observed.

Behind this morning's cold front a large surface high pressure system over the middle of the country will slowly make its way eastward. As the dry air arrives we will see clearing skies today and a very comfortable high near 80 degrees. More sunny and dry air is on tap for tomorrow when the high is again expected to reach 80, which is a few degrees cooler than normal for mid-July.

The high pressure system should be pretty much centered over the East Coast on Friday, resulting in another pleasant day with a high near 80. As the high moves off the coast on Saturday we might see more clouds but it looks like the maximum temperature will once again be near 80. The same temperature is expected on Sunday but the humidity will start to return and there are murmurings of rain in the forecast for Sunday night and Monday.
