Earlier this morning, a power generator for Co-Op City in the Bronx failed, leaving 50,000 people without power for hours. Apparently 27 people were trapped in elevators at a 35-building complex and needed to be rescued.

Con Ed stepped in to provide power, and the NYC Office of Emergency Management said that "paramedics and firefighters worked through the night, climbing flights and flights of stairs in the dark, to rescue anyone in need. In total, seven patients were evaluated. Four were transported to area hospitals." Power was restored by 4:30 a.m.

Co-Op City is one of the world's biggest housing developments; if it was its own city, it would be the 10th largest in NY State and it generates 40 tons of trash a day!
