Last week lawyers for the man who accused NYPD officers of sodomizing him as he resisted arrest in a Brooklyn subway station accused police investigators of tampering with their client's boxer shorts to make it seem that the hole could not have been made by a police baton. Indeed, the photos comparing the hole in Michael Mineo's boxers before and after seemed damning, but yesterday lawyers for the city hit back, claiming that the hole in the shorts merely appears to be different because of "bunching of the fabric" that creates an "optical illusion." It's true—and if you stare at the photos now while crossing your eyes, you can see a really trippy 3D "magic eye" landscape that's the same in both shots.
